Our projects

MY Hospitals Charity is proud to support and enhance the services provided by Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust. We support projects across the Trust which benefit patients, families, visitors and Trust colleagues. There are certain areas that we want to support as a priority and you can read about these below. 1. Research 

   Supporting the Research team is a priority area for funding and fundraising. By investing in cutting-edge medical research, we aim to drive innovation and improve patient care across the Trust. Funding helps researchers explore new treatments, develop advanced clinical practices, and contribute to life-changing discoveries. Through ongoing fundraising efforts, we are committed to empowering the Research team with the resources they need to expand their work, attract top talent, and ensure that patients benefit from the latest scientific advancements.

2. Innovation

   We are proud to support the Trust’s Innovation team, recognising the vital role innovation plays in transforming healthcare delivery. By investing in new ideas, technologies, and smarter ways of working, we are helping to drive forward improvements that enhance patient experience, streamline services, and support staff in delivering high standards of care. Through dedicated fundraising efforts, we can provide the Innovation team with the resources needed to trial and implement forward-thinking solutions that can make a lasting difference across Mid Yorkshire’s hospitals.

3. Children’s Services

   Committed to supporting MY Children’s Services, we want to ensure that young patients receive the best possible care in a welcoming and comforting environment. Donations help fund specialist equipment and initiatives and enhance environments that go beyond what NHS budgets can provide, creating a more positive experience for children and their families during their time in hospital.

4. Cancer Services

   We recognise the impact that enhanced cancer care can have on patients and their families. We help fund specialist equipment, improved patient environments, and additional support services that go beyond standard NHS provision, aiming to make the cancer journey as comfortable and dignified as possible.

5. Palliative Care 

   Supporting Palliative Care is crucial for the Charity, as we recognise the importance of providing compassionate and dignified care for patients with life-limiting conditions. Through charitable donations, palliative care services can be enhanced by specialist equipment, creating more comforting and homely environments, and supporting additional resources that offer emotional and practical support to patients and their families.

6. Spinal Injuries

   The Regional Spinal Injuries Centre at Mid Yorkshire NHS Teaching Trust, provides life-changing care to patients with complex spinal injuries from across the region. Thanks to generous donations, the Centre can purchase specialist rehabilitation equipment, enhancements to therapy spaces, and additional patient support services that go beyond core NHS funding. This support enables the unit to deliver exceptional, person-centred care that promotes independence, recovery, and long-term wellbeing. 

7. Intensive Care Unit (ICU)

   The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) in Pinderfields Hospital, Wakefield, has a critical role in saving lives and delivering complex, round-the-clock care. Through the generosity of donors, we can ensure that the ICU has access to the resources it needs to offer the best possible support to patients and their families during some of the most serious and challenging moments of their lives.

8. Bereavement Services

   We are deeply committed to supporting bereavement services and care at Mid Yorkshire NHS Teaching Trust. This vital service provides compassionate support for families during times of loss. Through charitable donations, we can help fund dedicated spaces for grieving families, memory-making resources, staff training, and specialist support services which aid comfort and dignity in the most difficult moments. 

9. Parental Bereavement Suite

   In partnership with 4Louis, a UK charity supporting those affected by child bereavement, and the Maternity and Bereavement teams at the Trust, we are creating a dedicated bereavement suite for families facing the heartbreak of losing a baby. This gentle, private space will offer comfort, dignity, and the chance to be together away from a clinical hospital environment. Thoughtfully designed with soft furnishings, soothing colours, and a private kitchen and dining area, these rooms will give families the privacy and peace they need to begin their grieving journey, surrounded by compassion and care.

10. Arts for Health

    An important new initiative for our Charity is championing creative health at Mid Yorkshire NHS Teaching Trust and supporting the powerful role that arts and creativity play in enhancing health and wellbeing. Through donations to this fund, we can support a wide range of creative initiatives, from visual arts and music to storytelling and therapeutic workshops. These can help to reduce stress, improve mental health, and create a more uplifting environment for patients, families, visitors and staff.

11. Alzheimer’s and Dementia

    Understanding the challenges faced by patients living with Alzheimer’s and Dementia and their families, we help to fund dementia-friendly environments, specialist equipment, staff training, and therapeutic that encourage comfort, familiarity, and dignity.

12. Sensory Room

    We passionately believe that by creating a sensory garden and room at the Trust, we can offer a peaceful retreat where individuals can engage with nature, light, sound, and texture to offer comfort and stimulation.

13. Staff benefit

    Applauding the incredible dedication and resilience of healthcare professionals, we provide funding for initiatives that enhance staff morale, mental health, the working environment, and overall work-life balance. This includes wellbeing programmes, relaxation spaces, training, and resources to help staff feel valued and supported in their demanding roles.
